MGC awarded VicHealth Inclusive Initiative of the Year

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

We are delighted to share the news that Melbourne Gymnastics Centre was awarded the 2019 VicHealth Inclusive Initiative of the Year winner at the Gymnastics Victoria Family Ball and Awards Night on Saturday at Marvel Stadium.

The award recognises our KinderGym program for families experiencing homelessness, which we have run in partnership with Launch Housing for the past three years.

Through this joint initiative, families and children who may not have otherwise had the financial means to access facilities, coaches and lessons have been able to experience and share in the joy of gymnastics.

Our focus has been on creating a safe, engaging and fun environment for families and children from the Launch Housing Playgroup to take part in gymnastics every term. It’s also been our goal to ensure families learn how they can incorporate fundamental movement at home with little to no equipment.

Catherine and Lucy accepting the award

Director of Melbourne Gymnastics Centre, Lucy Fyfield (Noutsis), and Fundamentals Manager, Catherine Day, accepted the award at Marvel Stadium.

'It is an honour to support and work with Launch Housing,' said Lucy. 'We believe at MGC that everyone deserves to be exposed to the sport of gymnastics, and that fundamental development can be gained by being involved in an overall movement program incorporating the basics of gymnastics.'

We are extremely proud of our partnership with Launch Housing, and we look forward to continuing to deliver this program to strengthen community foundations, share the joy of gymnastics and enrich lives beyond the gym.
